Mark’s music career started at the age of nine when he was given guitar lessons and an instrument by his grandmother who played piano and who remained a major influence throughout Mark’s life. Mark attended Evergreen State College where he studied with Julliard graduate Donald Chan and then continued classical and jazz guitar studies with Bob Gronenthal.
Mark studied classical bass with Seattle Symphony bassists Ron Simon and Nancy Griffin, jazz bass with Gary Peacock and Dave Holland, and also took lessons with Stafford James. He continued to develop his interest in jazz guitar, studying with Dave Peterson. He took classes and master classes with Jim Nichols, Dan Hearle, Joe Henderson, Julian Priester and Mark Levine.
He has worked professionally with Steve Allen, Diane Shure, Barbara McNair, Johnny Barnes of the Platters, Pat Finley, Pete Barbutti, Edmonia Jarrett, Hadley Caliman. In addition, Mark has worked with The Bellevue Philharmonic, the Seattle Philharmonic and with many of the finest musicians in the Pacific Northwest.
